Why build Crayon again?

I launched Version 1 of Crayon Vision (Built in Unity) in June 2024 just before the release of VisionOS 2.0, an update that opened up a whole new set of opportunities for improving the Crayon Vision experience. Improved hand tracking frame-rate and much better FaceTime personas. I had originally chosen Unity because of my familiarity with the software, but the possibility of an even more magical and social Crayon experience was too enticing to pass up.

Featured by Apple and Artnet

One week after the release of this new version, Crayon was selected by the editors of the App Store to be featured on the front page.

Almost two months into its release, Artnet featured Crayon as a particularly compelling spatial creative software. The review describes the app is as "imaginative" and "unique" compared to the other spatial painting apps on the platform.

"The Best Apps for Apple Vision Pro"

Three months into release, Crayon is actively in use by over 2000 users and has been selected as one of the best apps across the entire AVP platform.

What's new?

The VisionOS swift version of Crayon Vision preserves a lot of the functionality of the original, as I had received tremendously positive feedback on the core UX launched in that initial experience. Moving to native unlocked new potential.
